As we started planning for new cabinets we really wanted an island. With the current space we could do it but space would be cramped and we wouldn't get much of an island. So we decided to move the laundry room downstairs. This would open up the kitchen area and give us the room we needed to build a proper island. Here's what I drew for our plans. We'll have the fridge, new oven and microwave in the space where the laundry room was. Moving the microwave over there will allow us to install a proper ventilation system above the stove. As you can see there's plenty of room now for an awesome island.
